Another podium just missed as we ran 4th at the South Australian title at Murray Bridge.

Nick drove well all night and he was running 3rd in the final behind Lines & Murcott but lapped traffic got the better of us in the later stages of the race & he slipped to 4th which was still a great result after a thriling race to watch.

Next was the easter trail which started ok with Nick qualifying 7th out of 50 cars at Avalon but from then on it got a little out of control.

A roll over in the first heat wasn't too bad & we got him back out for the second & we ran ok but only had enough points for the front of the C main.

He won that & then started off the back of the B (18th) & on lap 2 he was 9th so I thought we may just make it all the way to the A but he was charging pretty hard and tangled with Milburn while passing and he got the chance to catch the light show again but this time in a big way.

With only one set of wings left & a bent chassis we went back home to put another car together and so missed Mt.Gambier but made it to Warrnambool on Sunday night.

I expected the track to be heavy & thats exactly what we got & then some. Lap times in the low 10's locked down & getting tackier as the night went on.

Our engine didn't run in time trials so we ended up 22nd & two 4th places in the heats put us of the front row of the B which he won.

With the fog rolling in the stewards decided to put the A on straight after the B so Nick had just run 20 laps and with only enough time to re-fuel the car he then had to front up for another 30.

He started 15th on a narrow track with little room to pass and raced hard to finish 13th.

The last race of the season was at Hamilton for the Vic title that was rained out earlier in the year where we had another average night.

An 8th & a 2nd in the heats put us in the B again which he won so we started 13th in the A and ended up 9th in another tough race.

A quick re-cap on the season looks like this :

  • 32 race meetings attended
  • 8 Rain outs  ( unbelievable )
  • 24 race meetings competed at
  • 11 top ten finishes
  • 3 podiums including our "First Win" & two 3rd places.
  • DNF'S
  • 5th overall in the SRA Series

A pretty good season with a lot of good laps completed and a lot more experience gained. Lacey Motorsport would like to thank all their sponsors, pit crew, family & friends for there help & companionship throughout the season. "It was a lot of fun".

Another podium was a great result for the team on Saturday night in the Champion of Champions race at Speedway City in Adelaide.

Nick drove hard & aggressive in the heats to gain a well earned spot in the trophy dash. By running 4th in the dash, and lapping as quick as the leaders (Robbie Farr & Steven Lines) we were set for a great 30 lap feature race.

After several attempts the final got underway and Nick was able to hold 4th just behind Dillon, Lines & Farr. These four cleared out from the rest setting a pace that I haven't seen at Speedway City for a long time. A heavy track led to Nick saying it was the first time at this track he'd been able to hold the throttle flat for the whole lap.

It was an exciting race to watch with these four dicing through the lap traffic nose to tail, with a few large ruts & bumps adding to the show with some 2 wheeling & wheel standing happening.

With about 8 to go Robbie Farr slowed with something broken and brought on a yellow. This moved us up to 3rd at the restart, and with a chance of a podium Nick bought it home with a great drive to run 3rd behind Lines & Dillon.

Next race is at Murray Bridge on the 16th for the South Australian Title .

See you at the races, Brett.

Adelaide - 5th March 2011 - George Tatnell Cup

After chasing the rain around most of VIC  & SA we finally got a round of the SRA series in on Saturday at Premier Speedway in Warrnambool.

A 2nd & a 4th in the heats put us in the trophy dash & Nick set quick time to get a front row start which he didn't put to waiste by leading every lap & taking the chequered flag for his first feature win.

This was a great result for the team after some solid finishes at the Australian championships (15th) & the Australian Open (7th) we felt that a win was soon to come.

This Saturday we're at Adelaide for the George Tatnell cup.
See you at the track. Brett

Saturday night at Speedway City in Adelaide, was another great nights racing for the George Tatnell Cup.

Nick ran 3rd in the first heat & 4th in the second, so we thought we would make the trophy dash as they were awarding passing points and Nick passed lots of cars. Unfortunately a little bit of hard charging & bump passing gained Nick a meeting with the Chief Steward which ended up with him losing 2 spots from the second heat so we ended 11th overall.

Starting from 11th on a slick & rough race track I thought we were going to be hard pressed for a good result, but Nick kept up the hard charging and after 30 laps he was 4th and climbing all over the back of 3rd with plenty of momentum but with 5 to go someone spun causing a yellow light.

At the restart Nick took a couple of laps to gain his momentum again and by the time he was ready for a pass the chequered flag had dropped.

4th from 11th is still a great result and Nick is gaining in confidence with each race meeting.

This weekend we are at Simpson on Saturday & Avalon on Sunday for more rounds of the SRA series. Hope to see you there, Brett.

Well the last 2 weekends were certainly tough nights at the races.

At Warrnambool we drew marble number 44 for time trails and by the time we got out on the track there wasn't much left and we put in a shocker to end up 33rd.

2 good heat races got us on the front row of the B main which we won just ahead of Robbie Farr.

Starting out of 13th in the A main Nick took a bit to settle in and the race went for 30 laps non stop and we ended up 15th.

Last night at Avalon Nick drove well in both heats moving forward to 3rd in the first & 4th in the second heat which only put us on the front row of the B main again.

I missed the the setup and we were way too loose so Nick was lucky to hold on to 3rd place to get us into the A main starting from 15th.

A few changes to the car and we were quick straight away and Nick made some good passes to start moving up. On lap 8 though he was caught out while making a move through a small opening which closed on him and we crashed out. No damage but a broken right rear shocker mount stopped us from restarting.

Having a break now to enjoy some time with the family and enjoy our eldest daughter Jacqui & her fiancee Mickey getting married on New Years Eve!!!  Its going to be a great weekend.

Next race is on the 8th of january but it will be in Adelaide as Moama has been cancelled due to lack of interest.

See you at the races, Brett.

A dry Victorian race!

Well we finally got to race in our home state at the first round of the SRA series that didn't get washed out.
I think it was actually supposed to be round 4 of the series but for all Victorians it was round 1.

Avalon dished up an unusual track which must of had a lot of rain water deep down because for a track that looked like going slick it stayed fairly tacky all night. We got off to a great start with two 3rd places in the heats which set us up with 7th starting position for the A main. This shows how tough this series is with the high car count & level of competition when two 3rd's only gets you on to the 4th row!

With the A main being 30 laps I told Nick the car will be a little tight for about 10 laps but should loosen up when the track goes off.

On lap 5 I saw steam coming off the tyres which meant there was still plenty of moisture coming up through the track so right then I wished I had taken some more grip out of the car as it was never going to loosen up. "Glad it was Nick driving and not me".

Fortunately everybody else got caught out as well and they all spent some time on 2 wheels which made it a pretty good race to watch.

Nick found a line that let the car run and he made some nice passing moves to move up into 4th place.

About mid race Nick made an outside pass to move into 3rd but before they completed the lap there was another crash so they put us back into 4th for the final restart. Nick tried hard but couldn't find a way past and we crossed the line in 4th which was another great result and a very good start to the SRA series for the team.

Next race is at Warrnambool this Saturday so I hope the weather is kind to us.

See you at the track, Brett.

Our first podium finish!
Podium Finish!

After 2 seasons, a few fourth places & some great top ten results, we grabbed our first podium on Saturday at Speedway City in Adelaide where Nick ran 3rd in the A Main.

Two good heat results set us up in third starting position for the final and when the green flag dropped we fell back to fourth for about six laps, but Nick made a great outside pass to get up into third.

The track went a bit slicker than I thought so we ended up a bit loose. Nick drove on the wall to find some moisture and was able to catch up to the leaders. With about 2 to go he found some grip down low on some rubber and made a nice pass to move into second but got excited and drove into the next corner to hard and slipped back to third. A great race and a great result for the team.

Next race is on Saturday at Avalon for hopefully a dry round of the SRA series.

Our season so far...

After a wet... No very wet start to the season (4 out of 7 races rained out so far), we finally got some racing in at Murray Bridge & Adelaide where after two back row starts, Nick finished 9th at the Bridge & 5th at Speedway City. A few engine problems early which turned out to be a blocked fuel filter set us back a little but the Oxygen Marketing Lacey Panel works J&J has found some good speed and hopefully we're on track now for some great racing. Many thanks to Mark & Josh O'brien for all or their help last weekend.

Lets hope the rain stays mainly on week days.

See you at the races , Brett & Nick.

2009 / 2010 Season in Review

Nicks 2nd season in sprintcars looks a bit like the share market with plenty of ups & downs but a steady climb upwards.

I told Nick that the 2nd season is normally the one with the most crashes as the speed you gathered in the 1st season doesn’t match your lack of experience which usually ends up in a crash. And it did!

Throughout the season he was very fast,  put in some great drives and had some spectacular crashes which kept us all very busy. Overall not bad for a rookie with now only 48 race meetings under his belt. We are certainly looking forward to next season & plan to travel a bit more & stretch our race schedule to over 30 race meetings.

Out of 27 race meetings our season stacked up like this
4 Rain outs
13 – A mains with 10  “Top Ten finishes”
3 times DNQ (for the Feature)
7 times DNF
2 quick times
New lap record at Premier Speedway (10.212)

LACEY MOTORSPORT would like to thank all our sponsors, pit crew & supporters and look forward to seeing you in October.

Our first mechanical failure. It wasn’t a 2 dollar part but it still broke!

After some great driving in the heats Nick finished with a 1st and a 5th which put us in the top 6 time trials with 5th highest points. 2nd out to time and a fraction off line he ended up 5th quick so that’s where we started in the A main.

A great start from Nick and he jumped straight into 4th and he set out after the leaders. On lap 6 he made a great outside pass to move into 3rd and looked good for a podium finish but on about lap 15 the Uni joint broke at the front of the drive line and we were out of the game. S**T!

Devastated to say the least we picked the pieces and started thinking about the next race which back at Avalon on Boxing night.

Thanks to our sponsors and crew... and "the girls"
Brett Lacey.

The last 2 race meetings were a wet affair...

Saturday 21st at Borderline Speedway in Mt Gambier started off in the rain but thanks to the promoters & track curators our wait for the rain to stop was
rewarded with a very fast race track and some great racing. Nick ran 2nd & 8th in the heats which put us out of 12th in the A main. He started out steadily then
moved forward passing cars until he caught the back of Steve Lines and it looked like we were going to run a respectable 7th place. Then on the last lap Steve
got balked behind the car in front so Nick made a great move passing both cars on the final corner and finished in 5th place.

The following week we travelled to Warrnambool but the November rains were too strong and the meeting was cancelled after hot laps. I know we need the rain but not on the weekends please. This weekend we race at Avalon so stay tuned.

Thanks to our sponsors and crew.
Brett Lacey.

Lacey Motorsports last 2 rounds...

The last 2 weeks have been pretty good for laceymotorsport. On Sat 31st of October we raced at Adelaide’s Speedway city for there opening night and Nick kept on the improvement trail by finishing 4th in the A main . After starting 4th he was 2nd coming out of turn 4 on the first lap and set out after the leader with some great speed in the new J&J. On lap 9 he had just caught the leader but a lapped car flipped causing a red light stoppage. A bit of inexperience saw Nick barrel down into turn one on the restart with cold tyres and end up on two wheels and rubbing the fence for a bit which allowed 2 cars through pushing him back to 4th . By the time he got his rythem back he had caught up to the leaders but the race was run. A great drive and our best finish in an A main so far.

Last Saturday the 7th of November we raced at Avalon for the first round of the SRA series and again Nick was showing great improvement. 2nd & 3rd in the heats made us 2nd highest point scorer which put us into the top six time trials. Nick drove a great lap and set “Quick Time” which gave him pole position for the first time in an A main.” A tense start and a small loose coming off turn 2 and Nick Was shuffled back to 4th. He settled down and was soon in 3rd with a great outside pass and on lap 7 he was looking at 2nd as they started lapping the tail enders. A small opportunity appeared on lap 9 so Nick went for it but came together with the car in 2nd and ended up with a bent front axle and parked in the centre. Another great nights racing and some great experience gathered for the whole team. Our next race is on the 21st at Mt.Gambier for round 2 of the SRA series.

Thanks to our sponsors and crew.
Brett Lacey.

Sprintcar Jackpot Invitational

10th October 2009 - Avalon Raceway, VIC

Lacey Motorsport has just completed our first race meeting for the season with a very pleasing result. Nick Lacey, in just his second season, was able to work his way into the top 8 Dash-for-Cash on Saturday night at the Avalon Speedway Invitational Jackpot. After a cut throat qualifying race, Nick finished 7th setting him straight into the semi-final. A few changes to the car to help in the heavy track conditions and he went from 14th to 7th with some great outside passing putting us into the Top 10 One Lap Time Trials, where only the quickest 8 cars would make it into the Dash-for-Cash. A smooth and controlled lap set us up for a 6th sarting position in the final. After a great start Nick made a great pass to move into 5th and was pressing for another, he had a slight push which was enough to let Robbie Farr slip through and after 10 super fast laps, we finished in 7th. Plenty of good racing laps for Nick and some good set up stuff for Brett with the new J&J Chassis made it a great night for the team. Many thanks to the crew and our sponsors, and also well done to Jeoff Drew for organising a great night of racing with some good prize money.

Hope to see you all at the next race meeting,
Brett Lacey

Season 2008 / 2009 in Review

The season of 08-09 was a significant one for Lacey Motorsports. Not only was it their first full season since returning to speedway it was also Nick’s first season of driving Sprintcars. For a new team and a rookie driver the overall result was both pleasing and promising.
